It all began when the Virginia State Tourism Office wanted to develop a new way of promoting their state as an attractive destination for potential visitors. After months of brainstorming and developing ideas, they stumbled across the phrase “Virginia is for Lovers“–and it immediately clicked! The phrase was short, to the point, and conveyed a positive message that was easy to understand.

Since its debut, the phrase has promoted Virginia as a desirable vacation spot for couples. Posters and ads featuring “Virginia is for Lovers” were placed around the country, highlighting all the beautiful things one can experience in the state. Lovers of all types are welcome to experience the state in a brilliant gesture of inclusion of all kinds of people and their interests.
