Ramble House Cinema

One film a week, picked ahead of time. Watch with us, or on your own couch.

What is Ramble
House Cinema

Ramble House Cinema is a weekly film night from Ramble. Every week we watch one film, chosen ahead of time, from horror and samurai to art house and comfort classics. Come over, or watch from your own couch at your own pace and tell us what you thought. There's popcorn and all sorts of drinks.

Why We Started

We were tired of spending thirty minutes scrolling a streaming app, rejecting everything, and ending up with nothing, or the same thing again. So we made a schedule. One film a week, chosen ahead of time. We want to enjoy stories together, appreciate the craft, and keep our friendships close, one movie at a time.

How It Works

  • One film a week. Screenings land on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, and the schedule is posted ahead so you can plan.
  • Join us or watch along. Come to our place, or stream or borrow it wherever you are. Many of our picks are free with a library card on Kanopy or Hoopla.
  • Tell us what you thought. Send one line and a rating out of 5. We'll share reactions along the way.
  • Every screening gets a ticket. Each film has its own numbered ticket, designed in the studio. Fifty-two films, fifty-two tickets.

A research crew in Antarctica discovers something that can imitate any living thing, and nobody can tell who's still human. John Carpenter builds dread from silence, snow and suspicion, and the practical effects are still astonishing. Not for the squeamish.

A Nightmare On Elm Street

Film 4 of 52

SUN OCT 25 2026DOORS 2PM • FILM 3PM

Teenagers on one street share the same nightmare, and the man in the striped sweater only needs them to fall asleep. Wes Craven turns bedtime into the scariest place in the house, with a wisecracking Freddy Krueger who became a horror icon. We're watching it in daylight on purpose.

DIR. NOBUHIKO OBAYASHI

1977 • JAPAN • 88 MIN • NR

Film 5 of 52

FRI OCT 30 2026DOORS 6PM • FILM 7PM

A schoolgirl and her friends spend a summer weekend at a remote country house, and the house has other plans. Nobuhiko Obayashi's debut is part haunted-house story, part fever dream, with candy-colored effects and a sense of humor all its own. It's the perfect send-off before trick-or-treating.

Yojimbo

DIR. Akira Kurosawa

1961 • JAPAN • 110 MIN • NR

Film 6 of 52

FRI NOV 6 2026DOORS 6PM • FILM 7PM

A wandering, wry samurai walks into a town split between two rival gangs and decides to play them against each other. Toshiro Mifune is magnetic, and Kurosawa mixes samurai film with something close to a western. It launched a whole genre of lone-stranger stories, including the one we're watching next.
